I was reviewing my past journal entries, looking for an example of receiving answers or comfort from the scriptures to share with my morning class and found this entry from back in March of 2011.
My husband and I were glued to our television witnessing the devastation of the 9.0 earthquake and accompanying tsunami in Japan. Also in that evening’s news was a series of fires in California that took many lives and destroyed large areas. Feeling overwhelmed and in shock, we switched the channel and caught a moment of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? The question was, “What Proctor and Gamble product was inspired by a word in Psalms 45? We decided to turn to that psalm and read it for our nightly scripture study; but by “mistake,” my husband turned to Psalm 46, across the page and started reading that instead. The words were like a direct voice from God, to calm our fears:
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
2 Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
3 Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof.
Come, behold the works of the Lord, what desolations he hath made in the earth.10 Be still, and know that I am God…”
An unsought, but much-needed answer to the turmoil without and within.
[Anyone know the answer to the “Millionaire” question??]
