“Mom, As a reward for graduating college I’m going to go to Italy.”
“Um…by yourself??”
“Well, I tried to get a couple friends to go, but that fell through…so…yeah.”
“Can I go??”
“Really? You’d go with me?”
“Well, I wouldn’t survive the stress if you went by yourself!”
Most every other trip I’d been on, (since I’d been married) was with my husband, who did all the planning, spoke German, took care of all the arrangements. This time it was (mostly) on me.
So many things could go wrong…but they didn’t!
We had a fabulous 10 days in Rome, Siena, San Gimignano, Pisa, Florence, Pompeii, Amalfi, Venice, Cinque Terre. We didn’t realize it at the time we booked it, but it turned out to be our last time together as mother/daughter before she got married. Thanks for the memories!

sounds like a great holiday! Did you go to Sicily by any chance? Any advice?
No, we didn’t make it there. My next trip–with spouse this time!–will be hiking the Haute Route from France to Switzerland, then maybe Lake Como area, Bavaria and southern France. Not for awhile yet, though.
good luck with preparations. sometimes it feels like having a trip before a trip
