A week of tender mercies

“I wrote down a few lines every day for years. Before I would write, I would ponder this question: ‘Have I seen the hand of God reaching out to touch our  family today?’ As I kept at it, something began to happen.  As I would cast my mind over the day, I would see evidence of what God had done for one of our family members that I had not recognized in the busy moments of the day.  As that happened, I realized that trying to remember had allowed God to show me what He had done. “More than gratitude    began to grow in my heart; testimony grew. I  became ever more certain that our Heavenly Father hears and answers  prayers. I felt more gratitude for the Atonement of the Savior Jesus Christ. I grew more confident that the Holy Ghost can bring all things to our remembrance—even things we did not notice or pay attention to when they happened.” (“O Remember, Remember,” Ensign or Liahona, Nov. 2007,67). In the spirit of Pres. Eyring’s example, and the example of Vernette’s Seven for … Continue reading

Windows of Heaven

“Ding-dong!” I opened the door to see my daughter holding a bottle of turmeric she’d borrowed and a $5.00 bill, which she had owed me. She was feeling proud of herself for “paying her debts.” She came in and I … Continue reading

The Language of God

I was visiting with my friend on Saturday and she related a conversation she had with her 16-year-old grandson. He is taking Japanese in school, and she asked him if there were any other languages he was interested in learning. … Continue reading

Joy to the World

This weekend I found myself in a quiet, beautiful place, and was there for quite awhile with no one around, so I decided to take advantage of the circumstances and meditate. I focused on a swirl in the marble baseboard … Continue reading

Weekly Photo Challenge: Habit–Fostering Gratitude

Since we replaced our wall-to-wall carpeting with hardwood floors and scratchy area rugs, I’ve resorted to using a folded-up fleece blanket to cushion my knees, but this is my first stop every morning. Have you ever wondered how it could … Continue reading

Be still

I was reviewing my past journal entries, looking for an example of receiving answers or comfort from the scriptures to share with my morning class and found this entry from back in March of 2011. My husband and I were glued … Continue reading
